Hard Disk Sentinel Professional (HDSentinel) is a hard disk monitoring software with highest possible support of HDD/SSD/SSHD (hybrid) drives. Its goal is to find, test, diagnose and repair hard disk drive problems, report and display SSD and HDD health, performance degradations and failures. Hard Disk Sentinel gives complete textual description, tips and displays/reports the most comprehensive information about the hard disks and solid state disks inside the computer or in external enclosures (USB / e-SATA). Many different alerts and report options are available to ensure maximum safety of your valuable data.

The software monitors hard disk drive / HDD status, including health, temperature and all S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology, built in most hard disks, solid state disks and hybrid drives (SSHD) today) values for each disks. Also it measures the disk transfer speed in real time which can be used as a benchmark or to detect possible hard disk failures, performance degradations.

HDSentinel is the perfect data protection solution: it can be effectively used to prevent HDD failure and SSD / HDD data loss because it has the most sensitive hard disk health rating system which is extremely sensitive to hard disk problems. This way even a small HDD problem can’t be missed. The Professional version has scheduled and automatic (on-problem) hard disk backup options to prevent data loss caused by not only failure but by malware or accidental delete also.

Hard Disk Sentinel Professional PORTABLE version

Hard Disk Sentinel Professional PORTABLE version can be used to diagnose hard disk drive and SSD devices in any computer without installation or modification of any settings, files on the appropriate computer. It can be effectively used from a pendrive (or other removable device) by system integrators and advanced users to periodically diagnose and test hard disk drives, however it does not provide real-time protection offered by the installed Hard Disk Sentinel Professional version.

The PORTABLE version contains all tests, diagnostic functions, options and features of Hard Disk Sentinel Professional, except some functions applicable for the installed version only (automatically start with Windows, use in Service mode, configure data folder location).

The use of PORTABLE version requires a license for Hard Disk Sentinel Professional. To fully utilize both the installed version (to get real-time 7/24 protection) and the PORTABLE version (to diagnose hard disks in different systems), separate licenses or use of a Family license (with both versions) is required.

The amount of computers (and hard disk drives, SSDs in those systems) is not limited — as the Portable version is used with only one computer at any given time, it can be moved to an other when preferred.

Quick Setup

To start monitoring the clients (if the Accept remote connections from server option is enabled
in the installed Hard Disk Sentinel Professional, under Configuration -> Integration page),
just start Hard Disk Sentinel Enterprise Server and select Configure client hosts.

Add hosts (for example, use Add Domain/workgroup, and select the workgroup to monitor the
local network). Test the connection to make sure there are no problems (no firewall issues) and
then just press the «Play» button to start monitoring.

Hard Disk Sentinel supported languages

Installation package of Hard Disk Sentinel contains the most recent language files for all available languages.

Anyway, if preferred to update the language file, it is possible to download and manually update the language files: right click on the corresponding file and save to the folder where Hard Disk Sentinel (standard or Professional) is installed.

The Professional versions also require the update of the secondary language file (xxPRO.LNG) also: right click on the xxPRO file and save it also to the folder of Hard Disk Sentinel Professional.

Как включить русский язык?

На сегодняшний день программа поставляется со встроенным русификатором, русский язык выбирается при установке или активируется через настройки: во вкладке «Configuration» открывают «Preference», в выпавшем окне «Language».

Как ей пользоваться?

1. Для начала Hard Disk Sentinel скачивают и устанавливают на компьютер. После запуска инсталлятора и появившегося предупреждения системы безопасности нажимают кнопку «Запустить».
2. Затем, в зависимости от версии, система предложит выбрать язык.
3. Сделав несколько кликов по кнопке «далее» в ходе установки, завершают процесс клавишей «установить», после чего начнется распаковка файлов.
4. Последним этапом инсталляции служит предложение Мастера установки завершить процесс соответствующей клавишей.

Запуск выполняется с правами администратора.

Внимание. Главное окно программы разделено на несколько секторов, слева расположен список всех обнаруженных дисков на компьютере с информацией о модели, а также степени износа, скорости на шкале до 100%

1. Вкладка «Обзор» предназначена для тестирования рабочего состояния, производительности, «здоровья» жесткого диска или внешнего накопителя. Результаты отображаются на шкале в процентном соотношении. Эта же вкладка содержит информацию о времени работы диска и предположительно оставшемся сроке эксплуатации.

   После обнаружения ошибок в работе накопителя, программа автоматически предложит варианты исправления. Параметр «Здоровье» наиболее точно отображает реальное состояние накопителя, является наиболее важным показателем и должен соответствовать значению 100%.

2. Вкладка «Свойства» отображает длительность работы, количество старта и остановок диска.
3. Во вкладке «Температура» находится информация о степени нагрева всех накопителей в текущем времени, отображает среднюю и максимальную температуру за день с подробным графиком предельных показателей в нижней части окна. Проверке доступны и внешние диски, как на текущий момент, так и за весь период, с функцией регулировки пороговых значений либо их отключения.
4. Вкладка «S.M.A.R.T.» (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology). Метод самоконтроля и формирование отчетов о диагностике дает оценку внутреннего состояния накопителя, позволяет оценить внутреннее состояние диска, предупредить момент поломки устройства, но не участвует в устранении проблем. Показатели из данной вкладки сравнивают с заданными максимальными значениями и делают выводы о степени износа.
5. Вкладка «Инфо» выдаст полную информацию о диске, включая ссылку на производителя.
6. Вкладка «Производительность» включает общие данные о носителе – конфигурация, серийный номер, контроллер, интерфейс. Расскажет, сколько всего записано и прочитано данных, скорость передачи (максимальные, текущие и средние значения), с указанием в процентном соотношении по шкале.

Кроме того, прога содержит ряд полезных функций, позволяющих:

• настроить сохранение и отправку на электронную почту отчетов в формате TXT, HTML файлов;
• проверить привод и магнитную поверхность головки накопителя;
• отправить разработчику тестовый отчет;
• настроить уровень шума;
• вывести логи;
• работать с горячими клавишами;
• настроить самодиагностику;
• выбрать способ оповещения о приближающемся выходе из строя винчестера (в Pro-версии);
• выполнить резервное копирование (в Pro-версии) и многое другое.

В случае отказа диска, превышении температуры, плохом состоянии, недостаточном количестве памяти, а также обновлении записей в журнале отчетов, программа предупредит пользователя звуковым оповещением.

Бесплатная лицензия доступна для пользователя после установки программы версии Standard и Professional, т.е. активируется в этих версиях автоматически. Рассчитана на одного пользователя для домашнего применения. После обновления программы лицензия аннулируется, обновления не предусмотрены. Бесплатная техническая поддержка не предоставляется.

Easy to use interfaceAll information are displayed in the main window of the application. Quick controls allow easy navigation to access all hard disks, partitions and different information. Intuitive user interface elements display information by using green/yellow/red color to indicate the level of problem. Detailed text description and context sensitive help guides the user thru the features and options.

1. Install > 2. Configure > 3. Stay protectedJust install, configure alerts and your system is now safe. You’ll be notified about the problems — but if everything is correct, Hard Disk Sentinel just sits on tray and displays current status. The data is protected 24 hours daily, 7 days a week.

Instant S.M.A.R.T. analysingHard Disk Sentinel can communicate with all IDE, Serial ATA, NVMe, SCSI, SAS and most USB hard disk drives, SSD and hybrid drives (SSHD) to detect their status and temperature. Hard disk status are displayed immediately as you launch the application, there is no need to analyse hard disks for a long period. It displays the current and maximum temperature for the hard disk. It reads all general and vendor-specific attributes and monitor their values. For advanced users, all raw data are displayed also including power-on time and number of read/write errors. Hard Disk Sentinel interprets the performance and fitness related S.M.A.R.T. values and displays the calculated Performance and Health percentage, total power on time and estimated lifetime remaining.

Hard Disk Hardware and Software TestsBy using Hard Disk Sentinel, it is possible to start hardware hard disk self tests. These tests can be used to effectively find all hard disk problems because built-in hardware methods are used to verify hard disk components (for example heads, servo, internal buffer in the Short self test). The Extended self test also verifies the complete hard disk surface, finds and repairs all weak areas and re-allocates the possible bad sectors. This is not possible with the software-based hard disk surface scan methods (for example, by using scandisk).

Seek Noise Test — to verify hard disk noise, seek time performance and temperature. Longer tests can be used as very deep and intensive stress-tests for the hard disk and verify if additional cooling is required.

LoggingHard Disk Sentinel logs all degradations in all SMART parameters and issues alerts in such cases to maximise data protection. For example, if a new bad sector is found on your hard disk, you will be notified.

ShutdownOffers option to shut down the computer on hard disk failure, HDD overheat or health degradation. This option can be used in combination of the alerts to prevent further data loss.

Hard Disk DetailsDetects and displays every information about the hard disk, from the revision number and buffer size to all features it has. The maximum available and current transfer modes are also displayed.

Information on demandCurrent hard disk temperatures and health are displyed on the system tray and can be displayed in a small status window, the desktop itself or in a sidebar gadget (under Windows Vista or newer operating system). Average and maximum temperatures are logged for all hard disks and these informations are displayed in graphs for statistical purposes.

Hard Disk PerformanceLogs how much data were read from or written to the hard disk. Displays current transfer rates for both reading and writing and estimates the maximum available (theoretical) transfer rate for a particular hard disk.

Hard Disk PartitionsDisplays partitions for each physical hard disks and type and usage informations about them so you cannot run out of space. Hard Disk Sentinel sends this information automatically in alert/status messages.

Acoustic ManagementOffers option to control the acoustic level of IDE/S-ATA hard disk. It is possible to increase performance or make the hard disk drives more silent. Unique feature: control the acoustic level of your external USB hard disk (if your USB enclosure is equipped with one of the proper USB-ATA bridge chips which supports this feature).

Clock SynchronizationIt offers option to synchronize the PC clock with an atomic clock via NTP (Network Time Protocol).
