I had an excellent NTSC DVD horror classic which I wanted to convert, because the blu ray release was dnr’ed to death, so I didn’t buy that. I managed to ivtc the dvd, but tried everything even old software like Avi.NET, AutoGK to convert to xvid and a few others e.g Fairuse Wizard etc to H264 format.
All left annoying combing artifacts. In the end I found an older version of Handbrake on an ‘antique’ XP based laptop. Set detelecine and decomb to auto, Deinterlace to off and my DVD came out perfect. Old stuff is the best.

Graphical interface

The following tools are required to build and run the GUI.

• Microsoft Visual Studio Community

• A Git client

  • Source Tree (recommended)
  • Client included with Visual Studio 2015 or later
• (see the LibHB build instructions preceding these, or download from https://handbrake.fr/nightly.php)

Clone using your git client.

Source code for the GUI resides in the folder and the solution file is named . Make sure HandBrakeWPF is set as the startup project in the Solution Explorer by right-clicking the name and selecting “Set as startup project”.

To build the GUI, select Build Solution from the Build menu.

When complete, locate the output folder where is created (typically in , depending on the selected build profile). Copy to this folder. This completes the build process.

1. The FDK AAC encoder is only provided in source code form and is not fully compatible with the GNU General Public License Version 2 used by HandBrake. Builds including FDK AAC must be for personal use only and may not be distributed. Do not share the build product with others.

Command line interface and LibHB

Building the HandBrake CLI and LibHB () for Windows requires Linux and a recent MinGW-w64 toolchain. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or later are recommended; other distros may work as well. In all cases, we recommend you build the MinGW-w64 toolchain using our instructions and the included script, as some packaged versions have issues that can produce non-functioning builds.

Installing on Linux

If you have installed a HandBrake package from your distribution or other third-party package repository, please remove it before proceeding. See the section, Warning about broken third-party builds on Where to get HandBrake for more information.

Ubuntu PPAs

The following instructions are for Ubuntu. They may also work on other -compatible distributions. For other Linux, please compile from the official source code.

From the command line, add the official releases PPA to your system.

If you prefer HandBrake’s nightly builds, add the official git-snapshots PPA.

Install HandBrake.

Run to use HandBrake on the command line.

Run to launch HandBrake’s graphical user interface. You may wish to right-click on the icon and select “Lock to Launcher” for easy access in the future.

Flatpak bundles

Flatpak bundles of HandBrake for Linux are available on the HandBrake website and Flathub.

Install your distribution’s package before running the following commands.

Install the latest HandBrake release from Flathub.

You can later update the HandBrake Flatpak to the latest release on Flathub by running the following.

If you prefer HandBrake’s nightly builds, download and install the latest available version (requires your distribution’s package).

Настройки HandBrake для формата записи также не отнимут много времени. Способ отображения изображения и звука в полученном файле зависит от настроек, которые выбираются на этом этапе.

Одна из первых вещей, которые нужно решить — это формат, в котором необходимо, чтобы выходной файл находился. Есть некоторые настройки и фильтры, которые можно найти на панели «Переключение предустановок». Открыв этот раздел, следует выбрать любой из представленных форматов, например, Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, Android, Chromecast, Roku, Android.

Если потребуется клон DVD или сконвертировать видео в iPhone X / 8, iPad Air / iPad mini, iPod touch 5 и т. д., необходимо найти соответствующий раздел меню. Именно в нем пользователи могут выбрать необходимо устройство, для которого будет форматирование видео необходимого размера.

Примечание. По умолчанию для выходных файлов Handbrake является рабочий стол. Потребуется выбрать другое местоположение, если необходимо сохранить файл в другом месте. Если установка не была сделана, тогда уже записанный на рабочем столе файл можно будет скопировать в нужное место.

Потребуется дать название полученному видеофайлу. Само приложение обычно дает ему значение по умолчанию. В меню можно провести все предустановки по желанию. Опытные пользователи советуют это делать сразу на начальных этапах для экономии времени.
