GIMP for Unix-like systems

The flatpak link above should open your software installer and prompt you to install GIMP (available platforms: i386, x86-64, ARM and AArch64). It may not work out-of-the-box on some platforms since the flatpak technology is new. If that is the case, ensure flatpak is installed and if clicking the link still does not prompt to install GIMP, then manually install by command line:

The flatpak build is very new and therefore may have shortcomings. It’s very likely your Unix-like system distribution already comes with a GIMP package. It is the preferred method of installing GIMP, as the distribution maintainers take care of all the dependencies and bug fix updates. Nevertheless, note that many distros decide to pin a specific version of GIMP to their releases, whereas our flatpak will follow GIMP releases closely.

GIMP can also run on Solaris and is available for the BSD family of systems such as FreeBSD and OpenBSD.

Search system¶

As GIMP keeps growing and getting more features, it becomes increasingly
difficult to locate this or that command in the user interface. This is
especially true when you are a new user who has yet to master image editing,
or an experienced user who is accustomed to a different application.

GIMP 2.10 comes with a search system that allows easily locating a command available in GIMP’s menu. Press the slash key (), type a keyword,
and choose the command that looks most applicable.

Simplified bug reporting and crash recovery

We need good bug reports to make GIMP better for you, so we introduced a new
feature to watch and intercept critical errors and crashes, then generate a
useful error log that you can copy/paste to a bug report.

On development versions, the dialog will be raised on all kind of errors (even
minor ones). On stable releases, it will be raised only during crashes. The
default behavior can be customized in Edit > Preferences > Debugging.

Please note that we still need you to provide context, e.g. what you were doing
when a crash occurred. A step-by-step description of how to reproduce this bug
will be most helpful.

Additionally, in case of a crash, GIMP will now attempt to backup all images
with unsaved changes, then suggest to reopen them the next time you start the application.

We cannot guarantee 100% success, but it will succeed sometimes, and this might
rescue your unsaved work!

More use for CIE LAB and CIE LCH¶

With GIMP 2.10, we introduced a number of features that make use of CIE LAB and
CIE LCH color spaces:

• Color dialogs now have an LCH color selector you can use instead of HSV. The LCH
  selector also displays out-of-gamut warning.
• A new Hue-Chroma filter in the Colors menu works much like Hue-Saturation,
  but operates in CIE LCH color space.
• The Fuzzy Select and the Bucket Fill tools can now select colors by their
  values in CIE L, C, and H channels.
• Both the Color Picker and the Sample Points dialog now display pixel
  values in CIE LAB and CIE LCH at your preference.

GIMP (development version) for Unix-like systems

We provide 2 Flatpak unstable builds: on Flathub for point
development release and on the GNOME nightly repository.
The development releases are manually selected and tested
snapshots of the code, hence deemed presentable to the public
whereas nightlies are untested by definition. Nightlies are
automated builds at random point in development process.

If there are no development releases, the latest stable version
will be provided instead in the development repository whereas
the nightly repository will always contain moving
work-in-progress code.

Программа поддерживает все основные функции, требуемые для художников, дизайнеров и энтузиастов:

• кисти (полностью настраиваемые), карандаши, распылители, т.д.;
• работа с альфа-каналом для использования и настройки прозрачности;
• слои, незаменимые для по-настоящему гибкой настройки изображений;
• каналы;
• масштабирование, вращение, отражение и искривление объектов;
• множество вариантов выделения, включая «волшебную палочку», Безье и интеллектуальные алгоритмы;
• поддержка графических планшетов.

GIMP поддерживает автоматизацию создания изображений, что может быть полезным при использовании его на производстве или для генерации графики в веб-технологиях.

Используется приложение не только художниками и дизайнерами, но и учеными для обработки графики. Оно доступно для каждого пользователя и имеет открытый код, который может быть модифицирован под свои потребности.

Чем Gimp хорош?

Итак, почему Gimp лично мне удобен?

1. Gimp, несмотря на свою бесплатность является программой для профессиональной обработки цифровой фотографии. Статьи профессиональных фотографов, использующих эту программу, я читала в журнале LinuxFormat. На официальном сайте этого журнала можно почитать бесплатно старые номера в электронном виде. Итак, профессиональные фотографы используют Gimp в своей работе. Этот графический редактор поддерживает достаточно большое количество форматов изображений (более 30), имеет возможности работы со слоями, кистями, масками, фильтрами. По крайней мере, на мой взгляд, все, что нужно для обработки фотографии, там имеется. Даже больше.
2. Gimp имеет интуитивно понятный интерфейс, гибкую систему настроек «под себя». Можно, например, самостоятельно настраивать горячие клавиши, задавать параметры сохранения изображения и другое. Все это достаточно просто осуществляется по мере необходимости.
3. Gimp вполне корректно распознает и обрабатывает формат .psd (поддерживающий слои), который по умолчанию использует фотошоп. Таким образом, работа с готовыми бесплатными рамками, шаблонами и т.п. полностью доступна и в Gimp.
4. Gimp имеет полноценную русскоязычную документацию. По большому счету, каждый из вас, уважаемые читатели, может полностью самостоятельно освоить эту программу по документации. Однако, если вы вообще никогда не работали с растровой графикой, то по документации работать достаточно сложно. Тут нужен самоучитель.
5. Наконец, решающим для меня фактором была именно бесплатность Gimp. Платить за AdobePhotoshop мне не по карману, а использовать взломанную версию совесть не позволяет. Вот как-то резко изменилась моя совесть. Одновременно с повсеместным введением бесплатных программ на работе. Институт тоже посчитал, что платить за фотошоп не имеет смысла. Как я теперь понимаю, правильно посчитал. Для нашей работы за глаза хватает Gimp.

GIMP и прочие программы [ править | править код ]

FilmGimp/Cinepaint/Glasgow

FilmGimp, теперь называемый Cinepaint — это ответвление от GIMP 1.0.4, с тех пор самостоятельно развиваемое. Cinepaint специально приспособлен для раскраски и ретуширования видеокадров с использованием менеджера кадров и «слоёв луковицы». Глубина представления цвета увеличена до 32 разрядов с плавающей точкой на канал вместо 8, как у GIMP. Файлы, создаваемые Cinepaint, несовместимы с GIMP, главным образом, из-за разницы в поддерживаемой глубине цвета. По той же причине GIMP не поддерживает кисти и текстуры Cinepaint.

В течение некоторого времени Cinepaint полностью переписывался под именем Glasgow. В феврале 2007 года была выпущена альфа-версия продукта.

GIMPshop

GIMPshop является форком GIMP, созданным для пользователей Adobe Photoshop с целью упростить миграцию. GIMPshop является продуктом стороннего разработчика, не являющегося членом команды GIMP.

Изменения GIMPshop относительно GIMP:

• реорганизация меню и переименование пунктов меню до соответствия c меню Adobe Photoshop
• клавиатурные комбинации Photoshop, используемые по умолчанию
• в версии для Windows используется расширение, помещающее окна с изображениями внутрь одного окна (MDI-интерфейс).

В настоящее время домен не принадлежит оригинальному разработчику GIMPshop, использование актуальных сборок не рекомендуется разработчиками GIMP .

Seashore

Seashore — редактор растровой графики на основе GIMP для Mac OS X, переписанный на Cocoa и использующий тот же формат файлов. Разработчики Seashore принципиально удалили ряд инструментов, чтобы сделать программу максимально лёгкой и не пытающейся конкурировать с более «тяжёлыми» программными продуктами.

Adobe Photoshop

GIMP может использовать данные в различных форматах Adobe Photoshop (наиболее известного профессионального растрового редактора):

• файлы в формате PSD (с ограничениями);
• файлы кистей (почти все версии, но без поддержки динамики);
• действия (actions), за счёт gimp-sharp (порядка 50% действий);
• расширения в формате 8bf — проект PSPI

GEGL port, high bit depth support, multi-threading, and more¶

The ultimate goal for v2.10 was completing the port to GEGL image processing
library, started with v2.6 when we introduced optional use of GEGL for color
tools and an experimental GEGL tool, and continued with v2.8 where we added
GEGL-based projection of layers.

Now GIMP uses GEGL for all tile management and builds an acyclic graph for
every project. This is a prerequisite for adding non-destructive editing planned
for v3.2.

There are many benefits from using GEGL, and some of them you can already enjoy
in GIMP 2.10.

High bit depth support allows processing images with up to 32-bit per color
channel precision and open/export PSD, TIFF, PNG, EXR, and RGBE files in their
native fidelity. Additionally, FITS images can be opened with up to 64-bit per
channel precision.

Multi-threading allows making use of multiple cores for processing. Not all
features in GIMP make use of that, it’s something we intend to work on further.
A point of interest is that multi-threading happens through GEGL processing, but
also in core GIMP itself, for instance to separate painting from display code.

GPU-side processing is still optional, but available for systems with stable
OpenCL drivers.

You can find configuration options for multi-threading and hardware acceleration
in Edit > Preferences > System Resources.

Better selection tools¶

The Foreground Select tool can finally make subpixel selections in complex
cases such as strays of hair on textured background. Two new masking methods are
now available for that.

New foreground select tool using Matting Global for fine selections of foreground objects, particularly things like find hairs.

The Select by Color and Fuzzy Select tools now both feature a Draw mask
option to display future selection area with a magenta fill, and the latter tool
also got a Diagonal neighbors option to select diagonally neighboring pixels.

For the Free Select tool, closing a polygonal/free selection now doesn’t
confirm the selection automatically. Instead you still can tweak positions of
nodes (where applicable), then press Enter, double-click inside the
selection, or switch to another tool to confirm the selection.

The Intelligent Scissors tool finally allows to remove the last added segment
with Backspace key, and GIMP now checks, whether the first and the last
segments are distinct before closing the curve.

Color tools

All color tools have been refactored to become GEGL-based filters, so they could
be properly used later on when we introduce non-destructive editing. Hence,
the Color submenu in the Tools menu has been removed, and these filters
are now mostly unavailable in the toolbox.

Обзор GIMP

GIMP (Гимп) – бесплатный графический редактор, имеющий отличный набор инструментов для работы с растровой графикой и более скромный набор функций для обработки векторных изображений. С помощью GIMP можно создавать логотипы и другие графические элементы, выполнять ретуширование и коррекцию фотографий, масштабирование и кадрирование изображение, преобразовывать формат файлов.

Функциональность программы

GIMP за счет распространения на условиях General Public License составляет достаточно высокую конкуренцию платным редакторам. Этому способствует и сравнительно мощный функционал, включающий:

• инструменты для фотокоррекции и управления цветом, включая регулировку насыщенности и баланса цветов, обесцвечивание и постеризацию;
• инструменты для рисования;
• возможность подключения графических планшетов;
• коррекцию изображений с помощью экранных фильтров;
• экспорт и импорт файлов формата pdf;
• редактирование текста;
• вычисления;
• категоризацию ресурсов;
• рендеринг;
• поддержку нескольких языков программирования для написания интерактивных сценариев.

Графический редактор имеет гибкий интерфейс, который можно настраивать по нескольким параметрам: группировке плавающих диалогов, перенастройке комбинаций клавиш, свободному перемещению любого меню. В качестве дополнения к программе GIMP имеется возможность установки утилиты UFRaw, которая служит для проявления цветных негативов формата Raw.

GIMP отличается высокой гибкостью архитектуры. Приложение совместимо с Windows, OS/2, Mac OS X и SkyOS. На базе GIMP разработано несколько специализированных программ, наиболее известные из которых – FilmGimp (ретуширование видео) и Seashore (упрощенная версия графического редактора).

Релизы

Программа GIMP впервые была выпущена в 1995 году. Графический редактор представлял собой дипломную работу двух начинающих программистов: С.Кимбелла и П.Маттиса. Впоследствии права на программу были проданы GNOME Foundation, а над дальнейшим развитием продукта стала работать целая команда добровольцев.

Актуальная версия GIMP имеет индекс 2.8.22. В сравнении с предыдущими релизами здесь были внесены изменения в иерархию окон, а также исправлены выявленные ошибки при импорте файлов с помощью плагинов. Новая версия потребляет заметно меньшее количество ресурсов ПК при установке, поэтому подходит для устройств с минимальными техническими характеристиками.

Under the Hood¶

GEGL

Important progress towards high bit-depth and non-destructive editing in GIMP has been made. Most color operations in GIMP are now ported to the powerful graph based image processing framework GEGL, meaning that the internal processing is being done in 32bit floating point linear light RGBA. By default the legacy 8bit code paths are still used, but a curious user can turn on the use of GEGL for the color operations with Colors / Use GEGL.

In addition to porting color operations to GEGL, an experimental GEGL Operation tool has been added, found in the Tools menu. It enables applying GEGL operations to an image and it gives on-canvas previews of the results. The screenshot to the right shows this for a Gaussian Blur.

Minor Changes

Ported many widgets to use the 2D graphics library cairo for drawing. See this comparison for an example of how much better this looks.
