Just a quick update on my previous comment. Apparently 2.2.2 is OLDER than v2.2. v2.2 is the final version and v2.2.2 is the second beta and a few months older.
Still… get v2.2 not 2.3.

This is just not ‘ready’ software. I know it’s no longer being made, but this version is hopelessly obtuse = hard to figure out. The wording is not clear and the commands and functions seem to be placed randomly. It is impossible to use this to set the color or font of subtitles with any certainty. The functions seem to be there, but don’t really work — or at best sometimes work. There are profiles, but seem not to be what actually is eventually on the DVD.
The only thing this has going for it is the DVD wizard, which works pretty well. Though you must download 3 other apps and map them first.
It also works fairly well for timing subtitles, though again, it’s not intuitive or reliable (you must try several time to get it to work properly).

Good program. A shame that development stopped but still worth using.
Some important notes:
Cannot handle UTF-8 srt files. You must save as ANSI.
v2.3 RC1 posted here is buggy, v2.2.2 was the last stable version.
I still use this all the time. One of the best quality srt to sup converting programs.

I haven’t used many features but the synch tools solved a big headache running subtitles made for PAL DVDs on AVI files from NTSC video. I would have never thought subtitles had any concern with frame-rate as they are time-stamped, but by if I wasn’t constantly adjusting the subtitle delay, they would end up displaying minutes in front of the audio by the end of the video… this tool fixed it in a few clicks!

В режиме списка вы увидите несколько колонок, в частности, длительность фразы, время начала и окончания. В режиме исходного текста вы увидите только сам текст.Режим списка лучше подходит для внесения изменений. Кроме собственно содержания, вы можете изменять продолжительность показа и время начала и завершения. Среди дополнительных возможностей приложения такие, как: проверка правописания, перевод, удаление или добавление строк и настройки конфигурации. DivXLand Media Subtitler is another free subtitle maker software for Windows. It allows you to open, create, and edit subtitle file of idx, tex, sub, srt, scr, txt, sst, xas, etc. It lets you open a number of video file formats to add subtitles, including Movie files, Windows media files, avi, divx, mkv, ogm, etc. Simply by using the hotkey Ctrl + N and Ctrl + L, you can add new subtitles or correct a subtitle file respectively. Also, it’s a subtitle converter that supports batch subtitle conversion of multiple subtitles files at once.

You can add dialogues and apply them on the video preview panel in three captioning modes: Press and hold, Manual mode, and Preview mode. All three have different ways of adding subtitle to the movie. It allows you to apply Spell check, add Background color, and change Font of the subtitle lines.

There is nothing peculiar about this subtitle maker software, and I didn’t find creating subtitles here that pleasing.

It supports and creates subtitles of all the major subtitle formats, including ass, srt, sub, xml, txt, etc. Using this subtitle maker, you can insert dialogues, set time duration, and start & end time for lines to occur on a video. Windows version of this software doesn’t support videos to be previewed while adding subtitles to it. Also, a lot of other features like subtitle synchronization and subtitle format conversion are not supported.

Subtitle Edit is an excellent tool, the only thing that doesn’t work well is the Set Video Offset at least when the frame rate is 23,976. It starts OK but it doesn’t match at the end of the video.

Subtitle Processor is one more free open source subtitle editor software for Windows. It is another good editor that allows you to edit the subtitle file and preview the edited subtitle over the actual video. However, it only works with subtitle files of SRT format. Now, check out the main features of this software.

Main Features:

• Subtitle Editor: It is the main subtitle editing section of this software that comes with two subtitle editing modes namely Frame Mode and Time Mode. Through frame mode, you can synchronize the subtitle text according to the frame of a video. On the other hand, in time mode, you can synchronize subtitle text according to the time duration of a video. In both the modes, you can also manually select and edit the text of a subtitle file.

SRT-fixer

Инсталляция программы не должна вызвать никаких сложностей. Для того чтобы успешно установить Subtitle Workshop и перейти непосредственно к использованию программы, достаточным будет ознакомление со следующими простыми шагами.

Если все сделано правильно, то в главном окне программы станут активными кнопки управления воспроизведением видео (Рис.2):

2. Чтобы загрузить субтитры, нужно выбрать: «Файл» -> «Загрузить субтитры» или воспользоваться комбинацией клавиш «Ctrl+O».

3. Если же создание субтитров должно происходить с «нуля», то выбирают «Файл» -> «Новые субтитры» или нажимают на клавиатуре «Ctrl+N».

Каждый субтитр состоит из четырех частей:

1. начальное время — время, когда текст появляется на экране;
2. конечное время — время, когда он исчезает;

Каждое из вышеперечисленных значений можно легко изменить в полях с соответствующим названием.

4. Помимо того, что данная программа делает создание субтитров весьма простым занятием, она еще и позволяет применить к ним различные стили форматирования. Для этого необходимо выделить их и активировать контекстное меню, нажав правой кнопкой мыши (Рис 3).

Однако не все форматы субтитров поддерживают оформление текста, поэтому следует быть осторожными, а для того чтобы создать новые, нужно нажать клавишу «Ins».

Перемещение же осуществляется двумя основными способами:

• одинарным/двойным щелчком по субтитру в общем списке.
• при помощи кнопок «Следующий субтитр/Предыдущий субтитр» на панели управления воспроизводимым видео.

Для сохранения субтитров нужно выбрать «Файл» -> «Сохранить как» (перед сохранением важно убедиться в правильном выборе кодировки текста)

Теперь, освоив основные приемы работы с программой Subtitle Workshop, не составит особого труда сделать полноценные субтитры к любому видео.

В заключение стоит отметить, что рассмотренное приложение обладает широкими возможностями для оптимизации работы «под себя», изучить которые можно, заглянув в пункт меню «Настройки» (Рис. 5).
